Pavers, sleepers, cobbles, stepping stones  and circles can all be bedded in river sand as an alternate option to laying them on a screed, (as you would normally do in tiling). Being 30 -40mm thick they will be strong and heavy enough when pavers are used as stepping stones e.g. in a garden application. One could then plant groundcovers, place pebbles or gravel between the tiles as these tiles will not be grouted.

The same products can be laid on a concrete screed & fixed with adhesive as you would a tile.

Note : it would be normal to leave a wide grout gap , i.e. not less than say 10mm and the grout used would be a 50/50 mix of plaster sand and cement .

Directions of application are as follows:

Level off the area which you are looking to pave and compact it.  Level with river sand & compact . Bed the pavers on top and ensure the whole bottom surface is securely supported by the sand.

One could use the sand to fill beneath the tiles to get the required levels or slope. You may wish to set the pavers by wetting between the pavers/cobbles, when the pavers/cobbles are dry sweep a 50/50 mix of plaster sand & cement into the grout gaps , sprinkle the pavers clean and the grout will set .

If you are not grouting  Leave at least a 10-15cm gap between tiles where one can plant or fill with gravel/pebbles.
